LIFESPORT 2016: GET THE WORD OUT

The RUMC version of Vacation Bible School is just around the corner – July 16-20.  Help us get the world out! Pick up a card from the welcome kiosk in the lobby and hand to a friend or share our Life Sport facebook posts with others. Some of the hobbies/sports are already full so sign-up soon.

LIFESPORT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

You responded well last week to the request for 30 volunteers. We are very close to being ready to receive over 300 children this year – that’s about 100 more than last year.

One crucial need for LIFESPORT right now is volunteers for Saturday Night, July 16th. We could especially use volunteers for Cheer Sport that night as many of the adults in this area had prior commitments that will keep them away that evening. Contact Christina Ware at (423) 316-0735 if you can help fill the Saturday need.

BE:atitudes:  Blessed. Happy. Changed.  A Different Way to Live.

Beatitudes Series - LogoJesus started his longest sermon with profound insights into human life. The words are challenging, deep, but incredibly meaningful and helpful when understood. Join us as we dig into each beatitude and become more like Jesus. Find previous weeks messages HERE.

Summer Feedback Sessions

Summer Feedback Sessions

Your insight is needed! We need your feedback through guided conversations hosted in the homes of RUMC church council members. This could be the most interesting conversation you have all summer. Where is RUMC headed in the near future? What is our ministry strategy? What are the values that we hold close to our hearts and want to teach others? How can we reach our community for Christ and help newcomers grow as disciples?  What will worship times, style, and locations look like in the near future? Oh, and did we mention ice cream…

You can register for a session HERE.

Help Wanted

Part-time Communications Coordinator

Summary: Seeking an energetic team player to direct and coordinate all aspects of in house communications at RUMC.

Weekly: Production of key weekly communication platforms in print and digital formats. Social media coordinator. Approve standard dates on the digital calendar and approve room use.

Occasional: Monthly information publication and occasional special bulletins. Help with bulk mail printing and delivery. Update in house materials and website.

Helpful Details: We print most of our items in house. The bulk of the work is often accomplished on Thursdays. All but printing and face to face meetings can be accomplished in a home office environment. Graphic design abilities required, but expertise is not. Digital portfolio of previous work very helpful. Must be able to take communications principles and turn them into visible results. Must be able to filter diverse information from different voices into a consistent format. Must recognize that communication is not just about “telling”, but about what the audience “hears.” RUMC is rooted in Orthodox Wesleyan understandings of interpreting and applying scripture. The position will require 8-15 hours per week.

Desired Ministry Characteristics:

  1. Confident and inspired follower of Jesus
  2. Love all people because God loves all people.
  3. Passionate about reaching un-churched, de-churched, and non-believing people and bringing them into a relationship with Jesus.
  4. Empower volunteers to lead, serve, and do; through recruitment, training, cheerleading, and meaningful delegation.
  5. Vision minded in the sense of connecting the bigger vision to smaller tasks.
  6. Growth minded in the sense of caring that God’s church grows consistently over time.
  7. Strategic minded in the sense of always understanding why we do what we do.
  8. Risk taker who can have fun trying new things and does not take life too seriously.
  9. Self-starter who is efficient with personal work habits and can finish tasks on time.
  10. Team player who works in unison with all ministries at RUMC to achieve our mission.

Life Sport Youth Volunteers

Youth who volunteer play a HUGE part in making Life Sport a great success each year. Youth can help across the spectrum of the event held July 16-20 at Ringgold High School. Two significant ways that youth can help to may the Life Sport event a great success:

  • Signup to volunteer (adult or youth) here.
  • Be in THE CREW. This group pulls off the musical elements of each night’s opening pep rally through dancing and singing. We need 10-15 youth to help. Practice is required to participate and we need you each night to make it a great success. Please email Bobby, bobby@ringgoldumc.org , to let him know you are interested, and he’ll get you the more detailed information.

Storytellers – Summer Sunday Youth Gatherings

This summer, I am excited to let you know we be doing a special message series at our Sunday Youth Gatherings. During this series, called “Storytellers,” we will hear from several adults and youth who will share of their testimonies and God stories. For the month of June, three adults will share, and for the month of July three youth will share their God stories. This series gives us an excellent opportunity to hear from the lives of other followers of Jesus Christ. Sunday Night Youth Gathering runs from 6p to 7:45p and includes snack supper, games, worship, and a message.

Upcoming Events

  • July 8 – Lookouts Game
  • July 16-20 – Life Sport

Summer Nicaragua Mission Update & Thank you

We, the 2016 Summer Nica Mission Team, want to thank everyone for their support and prayers for our recent mission trip. Without them, we would not be able to go and serve in mission and ministry in Nicaragua. This year’s trip was especially rewarding with all of us receiving more than we gave. The people of Maranonal and all the other communities we served in were very thankful for our presence and the love we have for them. In return, they showered us with love and affection making us feel like family and not outsiders. We planted a lot of seeds for the future and we cannot wait to return next Summer. Projects that we completed or started, 2 very successful youth conferences completed, medical training and medical assessments out in the community, water filter distribution, construction started on 2 homes, started painting the school in Maranonal, distributed teacher goodie bags to the teachers in the school, purchased much needed school supplies for the school, had VBS for children in the community for 4 days with an average attendance of 135 children daily with a high of 168 on last day, gave out goodie bags to the children on the last day of VBS, purchased medicine for two very ill residents of the community that could not afford to have their prescriptions filled, distributed 210 food bags in the community w/Bibles to the families in the community and had prayer with each family, and took some very special friends to dinner with us on our night out at the beach. I know that I have forgotten other special moments we experienced, so please forgive us for this oversight. We could not have accomplished all we were lead to do without all the love and support from everyone at RUMC, BUMC, and many others all across the area.

One God, One Mission,
Your 2016 Summer Nica Mission Team

Nicaragua Educational Mission Trip
Interest Meeting
Sunday, August 28 • 12:15p • Seekers Classroom

Teachers in Nicaragua are in need of your support, help, and training, and you can help! Calling all educators with a commitment to Jesus Christ and a desire to make a difference in the world. What has historically been the January Nicaragua Trip for the past eight years is now transitioning to July in 2017 to enable active teachers who are a part of our church to participate in meaningful outreach and peer leadership training to Nicaragua teachers. Next year we are hoping to host 1,000 Nicaragua teachers in the city of Leon over the course of a four-day teacher conference. We have seen the difference that this important training makes in the skill sets and ability to teach students in Nicaragua. Join us at this upcoming trip interest meeting to learn how you can serve God through peer leadership training in Nicaragua!

God Moment

Starting this week, we would like to share a special God moment someone experienced on the Summer Nicaragua Mission trip. This week Kathy Thomas would like to share one of her stories.

One Thursday of our week, one of our translators, Marlon, was praying around 1 o’clock that afternoon that we would bless him with one of the goodie bags, we were giving the children on the last day of VBS, for his 12 year old daughter. Then Kathy walked over to Marlon, and placed a goodie bag in his hands. t was so great that God used Kathy to bless Marlon, as Marlon had blessed us with his service and love all week. It is amazing how God hears our prayers and works things out.

Praise be to God,
Kathy
