About Service
The letter to the Philippians 2: 5-6 reminds us that Jesus , “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.” Jesus served the communities in which he traveled, often at great personal cost. The scriptures repeatedly tell us that he had ‘compassion’ on the people he encountered and he loved, taught, fed, healed, and forgave them. In short, Jesus served! In fact, the very last act of love given to the 12 disciples during the Last Supper was that of serving them by washing their feet, a job typically performed by the lowest ranked servant in a given household. Following this gift he commanded them to go and do likewise. Hence, we understand at Ringgold UMC that a serious part of our discipleship involves serving ‘the world that Jesus died for’. Below are opportunities for service both with Ringgold UMC, our Ringgold Community, and the world. Of course, the challenge is always to respond to new or known needs. If you have an idea for a service ministry or want to know more information about one of these existing opportunities, contact Steve Moore at 423-605-4135 or clergycard@gmail.com
