Haiti Mission Opportunity
Imagine having to choose between water, electricity, housing, roads, and a school. That’s what the people of Momance, Haiti did when they chose a school as their first priority for their village. The village elders realized that their future is in the hands of their children. The people of this community walk 30 minutes each way to get water. The children walk 60 minutes each way to go to school; therefore, many of the children do not attend school. Momance is located in Leogone, Haiti, which was the epicenter for the earthquake. Momance’s pastor, Jean Aelies, said, “We will pray together to see how we can get our dreams realized.” If you are called to help Pastor Jean and his village through your prayers, service or gifts, then you need to be in touch with Alan & Belinda.
Dr. Alan and Belinda Crisman are coordinating RUMC’s efforts in Haiti. We will be joining many other ministries in this effort. Together, Alan and Belinda have made a combined total of 18 mission trips to Haiti since 2004, largely serving in the medical mission field through the international organization Children’s Nutrition Program.
On their most recent trip, God put it on the hearts of several team members to reach out, partner with others on that trip and work to help build a school. The fruit that has come from that recent trip is that two other churches will be taking mission trips this Summer to begin to make this community dream a reality. The Crisman’s feel led to be a part of what God is doing in Momance and are deeply interested in sharing what God is leading them to. That is usually the way it happens. God moves in our hearts, and very interesting partnerships begin to blossom. Alan and Belinda can be contacted at 423-619-1199 or email@example.com.
Here are some updates on what God is doing in Momance:
1. The well was completed in September of 2012, so the community now has clean water!
2. We have currently raised a little over $19,000 for the land, well, and school foundation.
3. The footers for the foundation have been dug and poured. So, the foundation is nearing completion.
4. Alan and Belinda met with the people in Momance in October of 2012 and their dreams for the school include:
~ Christian Education,
~ Critical/Higher Level Thinking Instruction,
~ Career/Vocational Ed,
~ English Curriculum,
~ and Technology Instruction.
~ They would also like assistance with a school breakfast and/or lunch program; which the organization Alan works with, Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti, could provide. And they mentioned using the school at night to provide adult career classes.
