Our youth programs here at RUMC have taken on the name ELEKTRON. “Elektron” (with the K and everything) is the root word for electricity, a terrific metaphor for the working of God’s power in and through our lives. Here at Elektron we are continually exploring all of the ways that we interact with that power. Our Sunday night program, FUSE, serves as a stop-gap against overload, protecting us as we enter the week to come. On Wednesday nights our students connect to the WIRE, a mid-week recharge for their spiritual lives. Our SPARK events show our community that God is active in our lifestyle while our BREAKER events allow us to shut down for necessary reconstruction from time to time. Some of these events are seasonal, which is why it’s important to PLUG IN (this metaphor is like a car with no brakes) by subscribing to our
1) weekly blog (http://elektronyouth.wordpress.com/),
2) our parent email (by sending Kevin a request at firstname.lastname@example.org),
3) and our text updates (140 character nuggets of last-minute reminders; email Kevin your name, mobile #, and service provider name).
And, like the rest of the world, we’re on Facebook:
Here are some more regular program details:
All year long our Sunday morning small groups meet at 9:45 & 11 in Youth Room A, across the hall from the MPR. This is a time of Bible study and conversation, alternately related to the sermon series or to a topical study.
During the school year our youth/adult orchestra rehearses in the sanctuary from 5-6pm. This musical opportunity is open to any musician (or former musician) from 7th grade and up. We do mean “and up.”
Also during the school year, our Sunday night program beginning at 6pm provides family-minded opportunities for growth and reflection in study, conversation, worship, and fellowship settings. In the spring series we also experience our confirmation preparation series for middle school and a Christian living series for our high school group.
Our Summer Sundays feature a book discussion group that meets in host homes from 6-8pm. We dive into some great food and then dissect the chapter of the week—we’ve had some truly great conversation over the past two summers of this group!
Wednesdays during the school year feature what is currently our largest weekly gathering of youth, meeting for an invigorating time of full-band worship followed by in-depth content in large and small group settings. This program runs from 6:30-7:45 following our Wednesday night suppers.
During the summer, our Wednesdays are spent with our larger church family in a series of activities designed to draw all of our age groups together!
