Nicaraguan Missions
Our Outreach to Nicaragua
Each summer we send a team to Leon, Nicaragua to work alongside our Sister Church. In 2011 Bill Copeland led a team who was joined by other team members from Boynton United Methodist and also a church from Murfreesboro. They concentrated on finishing a few projects at our sister church, especially making sure that a new water well was operational and that the people know how to best use it. The team also did outreach to the community through prayer walks and Vacation Bible School. They held a one day Youth Leadership Conference. Although it was a smaller team, this is a wonderful way for the whole church to be involved in international missions!
In June of 2012 our trip looked like this:
A team of 31 Christians from 4 different states participated. They worked on the following major projects as well as numerous smaller ones:
1. Broke ground on a new church building in the community of La Majada. The church there has been meeting at the home of Claudia, the school principal in the community.
2. A large medical staff performed health screenings in the Las Parcelas, La Majada, and 2 additional locations. Also, they did training sessions for approx. 150 nurses / medical personnel.
3. They led VBS for aprox. 500 children during the week in different locations, including a special needs school and a nursing home.
4. They took the children from the Child Protection Center, on the campus of El Ayundante, to the sports complex for an afternoon of swimming, soccer, a hot dog or hamburger, and a training session on leadership.
We are very excited about all the opportunities that God gave us to serve on this trip.

They will also be putting the finishing touches on the church at LaMajada. As usual, the team will be working with 2 schools on Monday. This year, they will be serving a Catholic Orphange School in Leon. We will find out more information this summer concerning the orphans, school, nuns, teachers and more. Please continue your prayers for how God will continue to guide us in Nicaragua! Call Lamar Brown at 706-935-8236 for more information. The 2012 trip went wonderfully!
