Hospitality Team
The Hospitality team is RUMC’s Welcoming Committee. It’s our mission to make sure our RUMC family and RUMC guests feel welcome and at home! We provide information and assistance in helping guests and newcomers find a place for them to plug-in – such as small groups, ministries, service opportunities, and even navigating the building. We support the Sunday morning coffee and snacks, the Guest Services area, Cookie Jar ministries, and various special events. We would LOVE to have you on our team!
For more information, contact Suzan Gibson at (423) 580-3407 or suzan.gibson@gmail.com.
We are currently working to fill in a new schedule of Hospitality Volunteers that will work alongside our new Sunday Morning Worship Schedule. You can contact Suzan directly to sign-up for a specific role and Sunday of the month, or you can sign-up in the lobby before or after our worship services pn August 19th and 26th. The following are details about your opportunities to serve …
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
~ All these volunteers are asked to be in their places by 15 minutes BEFORE the service begins. Please stay in place until at least 5 minutes into the service.
~ Each volunteer will have a nametag to wear – they will be kept in the Guest Services Center (grouped by type). Please wear it each time you serve. If it’s easier for you to keep your tag with you, that’s fine. If you forget it, please come get a blank tag and add your name for the morning.
~ If a conflict arises and you aren’t able to serve on your Sunday, please find a replacement for yourself and be sure they know what to do. If you are not able to do so, contact the church office.
~ It is easiest to communicate by email (you’ll get a reminder the week of your service every time it comes up), but if you don’t have an email, we’ll call you. Please list a home or cell phone number instead of an email if that is the case.
~ Your smile, words of greeting, helpful info and general attitude will have a HUGE impression on guests to our church. Please keep this in mind on the Sunday’s you serve. Thank you for being the hands, feet, mouth, eyes and voice of Christ at RUMC!
JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
Ushers – will be responsible for greeting and handing out bulletins (Happenings only for the Contemporary Services and Happenings & Order of Service at the Traditional Services) at the entry doors to the worship spaces. This group will also take up the collection in the Traditional Services.
Greeters – someone who will be at the exterior entrances at all Service times to welcome and open doors for guests and members. These folks just open doors, verbally & physically welcome everyone and smile a lot! They don’t leave their posts. We will man 4 entrances with Greeters: 1) the Main Entrance, 2) the Activity Center Entrance – gym/fellowship hall, 3) the Education Entrance – preschool, and 4) the Side entrance – in the corner by the MPR. At the Education & Activity Center Entrances we will also have a Guide stationed that can walk guests to where they’re headed.
Guest Services – We will have one Guest Services area for the whole church. It will be located in the new lobby just off the Sanctuary. Someone will remain stationary in that area who is a “Specialist” of sorts at answering questions and handing out information to guests. They will also have a Guide to help folks get to the next spot they are trying to get to.
Guides – One will be located at the Guest Services area and one at each of the Education & Activity Center Entrances. These Guides will walk with guests showing them how to get to their desired locations. These people should be comfortable talking with new people and should have knowledge of the various activities, events, Services, etc. that are going on at our Church.
TRAINING PLANS:
We would like ALL Hospitality Volunteers to attend a short training session that will answer questions, clarify expectations, and get everyone up to speed on what our “plan” is for helping to connect to first time guests of RUMC.
Right now we have 2 time frames scheduled – please choose one of these:
1) Sunday, September 16th @ noon in the gym or
2) Wednesday, September 19th @ 6:30pm in the sanctuary
If you can’t make either of these options, please let Suzan Gibson (423-580-3407 / suzan.gibson@gmail.com) know so that we can make other arrangements to get the needed information to you.
