Break Through Isolation & Grow in a Group with Others | Adult Connections Groups

Why not set a goal RIGHT NOW to break through isolation and grow in a group with others this semester? Many people that I have talked to (and myself included) have mentioned how isolated and lonely they feel over the past year. I get it; really I do. It has been very difficult to do life with others recently. Let’s break through all the excuses (and many excuses are valid), meet with others, and grow in group fellowship TOGETHER. NEW…

#2020InReview

Many have described 2020 as a “dumpster fire” or a “throwaway year.” While you might remember the incredible challenges of 2020 just like I do, I want to challenge you to take a minute a celebrate “#2020InReview” and the many ways that 2020 was a great year of ministry and mission at Ringgold United Methodist Church. Sure, in January 2020, none of us would have guessed that 2020 would entail all that it has. Even more still, I am not…

Christmas @ RUMC

Sisters and Brothers, Last week our attendance was 469! In person attendance was 124 (Traditional – 48, Contemporary – 76) and online was 345! How accurate is that number? Pretty accurate. In fact, every time we’ve tested the accuracy we’ve UNDER estimated the actual number of people watching. (When we’ve checked we’ve averaged 2.2 persons/device but we only count 2 persons/device.) Please continue to get the word out and invite folks to join us online or in-person for Christmas Eve. It’s…

www.Ringgoldumc.TV and other IMPORTANT UPDATES

Sisters and Brothers, Last Sunday we broadcast worship in a third and exciting way: www.ringgoldumc.tv You can now watch worship DIRECTLY through our website. It’s also an interactive page where visitors can request prayer and where a virtual host is available to greet people (like our in-person greeters in the lobby). If you noticed a small timing or syncing problem between what you were hearing and seeing last Sunday (for example, my mouth was moving a little slower than the…

Gift-Getting Has Begun

Friends, The “season of gift-buying” has officially begun. This Sunday we conclude our AFTER-Life theme with a message on The GIFT of Eternal Life. This of course isn’t a gift you can buy or earn; it’s truly something we simply receive. I’ll lead you in a brief reflection in the message on the phrase “eternal life” and its use in the Bible and then we’ll consider what eternal life will be like using the hints left to us in our…

Is Hell Real?

Sisters & Brothers, We continue our AFTER-Life theme this weekend with a message on Hell. It’s a difficult subject for more than a few reasons. In fact, I think this is only the third time in 25 years that I’ve preached an entire sermon about it. I’ve mentioned hell many times (even doing so last week). However, to devote an entire message to this is something distinct. Do you know that Jesus uses a word for hell that that no…

Proud of Your Church?

Friends, I hope to see you in worship tomorrow or that you’ll see me online, 9am or 11am at www.ringgoldumc.TV. Ringgold UMC has a proud history, worthy of celebrating and in doing so may we also “see ahead” into the exciting potential of the future and deal realistically with the challenges. Tomorrow as we worship Christ, we envision the church an entire generation (and then some) into the future. What will RUMC be in 2063? ChrisP.S. We’re hosting a car trunk as…

World Communion Sunday

Friends, This Sunday Christians around the world gather at the Lord’s Table together. Historically, we call it “World Communion Sunday” and this year it will be historic. Christians will be gathering in houses of worship as well as their own homes to participate. It has been months since we’ve offered Holy Communion at RUMC and we all feel it. Not being able to regularly offer and receive the elements in a regular fashion has been a deep challenge for me,…

So Much to Cover…

Sisters and Brothers, This past Sunday we had the best attendance since returning to offer in-person worship. Just under 400 participated with just over 1/4 of those being in-person (and divided almost evenly between traditional and contemporary). We remain socially distanced (well within limits, we could almost double our numbers and still be fine) and wearing masks. But we have started singing… (Read more below.) Miss worship last Sunday?Use this link to watch worship or this one to just watch the message.   NEED SOME HOPE?Listen or watch any message…
