Lent: Sacrificial Love (Day 39)

Lent: Sacrificial Love (Day 39)

Read: John 13:1-15

Reflect: Do you all like that show Under Cover Boss?

This passage reminds me of that show. Jesus is the Boss, and He wasn’t really undercover. He just wrapped a towel around himself. Peter refused at first, but Jesus convinced him to participate.

Undoubtedly, everyone stopped and solemnly witnessed Jesus placing himself in the role of servant to His disciples. Can you imagine all the miracles this group of people have seen–all the good works done by Jesus–and now He is washing everyone’s feet.

After getting His outer clothing back on, He returned and explained exactly what He had demonstrated for them. This scripture is very simple and clear–none of us should ever lose sight. We are all expected to serve from the most honorable to the least.

Service with humility and love is the example given. Matt 25:40 says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

The final 5 minutes of Under Cover Boss is the best part. If you are unfamiliar with the show, here is how it goes (spoiler alert: there maybe parallels drawn to eternity)

The employees are called in one by one. The “Boss” reviews their performance and makes a judgement. If they were good and faithful employees(servants) they are rewarded with huge promotions, college tuition, cars, houses and franchises. The “Boss” ensures they will have a new “life” and this way of living will go on for generations.

Pray: Lord, thank you for the opportunity of today. Please open our eyes to where we are needed. Please have us do what your will is with humility and love. Amen
