Sermons from 2020
Who greeted Jesus after His birth? Who was there in that first nativity? If you were around, would have you been numbered in that first welcome party? Join in as Lay Leader, Marty McGee, explores these ideas. Key Text: Matthew 2:1-14
Under the Christmas Tree we find our final stop on the Christmas Places theme. Let’s remember the final stop of our Christmas journey and the final stop of the original Christmas story this Christmas Eve.
Our third stop on the “Christmas Places” theme is “Family Dinner (Eat, Argue… or Both?).” The family dinner table at Christmas (or otherwise) can be full of fun, laughter, and memories. It can also be a time of tension, arguing, and fussing. What would it take for us to redeem these moments? What might our Christmas Family Dinner look like this year? It will probably be different as some of our family may not be present.
Our second stop on the “Christmas Places” theme is “At The Mall.” The hustle and bustle of the mall can provide an exciting opportunity for deals and sales, but it can also provide a great deal of stress with picking the right gift and managing the crowds of people. So much of shopping focuses on wants and consumption. What if we took more time to serve this Christmas? Key Texts: Revelation 3:17-18 (NIV); Proverbs 10:2 (NIV)
Our first stop on the “Christmas Places” theme is “Decorating the House.” Christmas is an exhilarating time each year, looked forward to by throngs of adults as well us millions of children. But it’s also a time of extreme busyness, stress, anxiety and uncertainty. How might we seek and find Christ in all of the various Christmas places and “states” we find ourselves ? Key Text: Malachi 3:1-2 NLT
Eternal life is a gift and a promise from God to all those who would follow Jesus. There is life after this life, and this life is eternal. What does eternal life look like? As we conclude the After Life series, join in as we dig deep in this conversation about eternal life together. Key Texts: 1 John 5:11-13 (NRSV); 2 Corinthians 5:7-9
We continue our AFTER-Life theme this weekend with a message on Hell. It’s a difficult subject for more than a few reasons. In fact, I think this is only the third time in 25 years that I’ve preached an entire sermon about it. I’ve mentioned hell many times (even doing so last week). However, to devote an entire message to this is something distinct. Do you know that Jesus uses a word for hell that that no one else does?…
As we continue our series on The After Life, join us in Traditional Worship as Pastor Chris Bryant shares the message, “Do I Have a Soul?” Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians shares of what could be described as a near-death experience where he is “caught up in the third heaven.” Let’s dig into this puzzling scripture together as we discuss the existence and purpose of our souls. Key Texts: 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 (NLT), 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 (NLT)
What exactly does heaven look like? The Bible offers many descriptions of the after life and of heaven specifically. It’s magnificent in splendor, beauty, and wonder. You are invited to worship with us as we talk about The Trip of a Lifetime with Randy Sherrill, our Associate Lay Leader, sharing the message. Key Text: John 14:1-4 NIV
