Revelation 22:12-13
Passage
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Devotional
Growing up on a dairy and tobacco farm in East Tennessee my life revolved around my parents, Papaw Davis, two brothers, school and Briar Thicket Baptist Church where I was saved during a revival when I was nine years old. I was baptized in the Nolichucky River.
Riding the bus fifteen miles to Cocke County High School through the hills of East Tennessee, I felt “called” to Social Work. I saw children who did not always have shoes when school started and girls who were made to quit school after the eighth grade.
My work was a vocation not just a profession or occupation.
In retirement, I felt called again the night of the tornado when sheltering in the middle of our home asking God “What would you have me do?” Through the encouragement and work of Aubrey we began a year of work from our church in the rebuilding of 15 homes with UMCOR under the direction of someone who was sent by them as well as Christian Aid Ministries and many others in the community and across the nation.
Again feeling “called” by a phone call from a lifelong resident of Ringgold when she became homeless after a seven-week hospital stay in July 2022.
None of this body of work would have been possible without being led by the Holy Spirit. The most rewarding work for Aubrey and me has been since retirement.
